Winged Warrior!!!!!!

This was really fun to do. Though it took a bit longer to do than I thought it would. But then I was making it up as I went along.

Take one standard, slightly boring bird ornament

make templates from paper before transferring to grungepaper.
Stamp with your choice of stamps. I used Crafty Individuals; they are one of my favourite companies in the uk.



Then let your imagination run wild and this is the end result!!!!!!!!!!!!!!




The chained decoration is actually a belt, just perfect for the slightly martial theme I developed.




The bottom wing was run through the cuttlebug, but it does not give a really deep impression on grunge, for that you need Tim's embossing folders as they give a much deeper impression.
The top wing was painted ith cracle, rock candy clear, it really intensifies the colours...

I love the "Mohican" style  cresting

The main body; I stamped onto white tissue paper before adhering to the body, then I inked over.
The head was painted with Ferro gold metal paint.

The back was embossed using Tim's folder (I learn't my lesson on the wings!)

I love the textures you can achieve with all the various products available.

Finished

The base was made by glueing vintage tapes to the base; digging out a couple of grunge flowers I had made a while ago, some old leaves from a necklace, nice and simple.


I hope you have enjoyed looking at this and hope it inspires you to take a look at things in a different light. I think i'll be digging out my artist mannequin soon. Every warrior bird needs a rider; don't they?

A little birdie told me....

A little birdie told me to have some fun; so I did. I took my compendium of curiosities and began to do some of the techniques I had not got round to trying yest, I have to say that the jury is still out on some things but there are some that have just moved up into my top ten!
Here are a couple of my new favourites.

Rusted Grunge

I just love this tag. I stamped a script image over it with stazon.
I need to search for the perfect embellishment to finish it off....





Then I played a bit to create this. The background is cork, stamped with T Holtz stamp
The lace doilie came from a bootfair earlier in the year along with the old tape measure.
I used the rusted effect grunge as the background for the cage.
Everything just evolved really as I had no plan when I started......





I like the way opaque ink seems to resist the next colour distress ink and gives a lovely subtle  pattern
(I used that on the Trust label)

 



And the crackle is still a wonderful effect which I love using.
The bird was done with picket fence white crackle and vintage photo distress ink.

 

All pegged

Miserable outside so perfect crafting weather. I've just finished altering a batch of pegs. I got told in no uncertain terms that I use too much brown in my stuff by my daughters so just for them I used black and blue.

I Just think the Tattered florals die is fabulous, I used grunge paper, covered in scrapbook paper, some of them I put through the cuttlebug to emboss. The pegs I painted black. I then embossed the silver panels with self adhesive metal before attaching. Then everything got a covering of black acrylic rubbed over.

Tim Holtz Keys, tags and chain add a nice touch.

Tim's embossing folders give a lovely deep emboss, even on grunge!

And what do we use the pegs for? To display things..... like a special photo .....

I will be using them as part of my display at a stall I have later in November, after that, I think my daughter will probably find somewhere for them!

The sun was shining so ....

The sun was shining so we decided to go out yesterday. With coffee in the flask off we went. So instead of a crafty picture I hope you enjoy these few pics of the fun we had; and a glorious sunset to boot. Now I am busy prepping some pegs, boxes and almost ready to get the cuttlebug out. Just a quickie post

Morning all, been busy with christmas cards so forgot to post yesterday! This is a little tin I made to house some photos of a safari trip I did, Still working on the inside...

Good Morning!

Wow, so exciting to have followers! Thank you for thinking my art and craft is worth keeping an eye on. I am humbled and grateful. I have been enjoying myself catching up with loads of projects that are on my to do list. It keeps my wife occupied in looking for places to display them around the house too....
The latest project has been this frame.

I found the piece of metal on the beach (and of course it was too dangerous to leave there, someone may get hurt! was the excuse I used to pick it up. I covered the canvas with distress inks and Tim Holtz stamps; I stamped the sentiment onto mica and adhered to the canvas with Glossy Accents. It made some interesting marks in the inks which I thought added to the rustique feel. I used rub ons onto the metal for interest and then added the time pieces and tattered floral flowers to the top to finish off. (I have a couple of containers of old watches picked up from a car boot sale- proper vintage!)
Then to finish I used the fanciful flight butterfly, emossed and distressed and used some small watch cogs to create the body. Couple of chains and tags; a twist tie and job done!

Close up of the top shows some of the detail. I glued paper to grunge paper for the flowers as well as thin cork and held together with a snap.

 Thought I would get round to getting this done when I saw the Simon says Stamp challange, never entered a challange before but there's always a first time for everything.
I used scrapbook papers, Tim Holtz stamps and his tattered frorals and bird die, distress inks, crackle paint. It was fun to do, and I will probably still add some "Hardware" to it over time. (I love chains and dangly things!) Hope you enjoy it.
